The Habits and Products for Strong and Healthy Hair That Work!

It doesn’t matter what type of hair you have – whether it is fine, thick, long, short, matte, glossy, curly, oily, or straight, your locks deserve respect. Some basic rules apply to everyone’s hair. Many people are taught skincare from an early age, but hair is often taken for granted. Unfortunately, nine times out of ten that leads to damaged hair. Many factors can lead to damaged hair – from dying and bleaching to excessive use of styling tools. They can damage hair ends, and dry your hair, so it ends up looking dull and like a broomstick. And so, whatever the season, a consistent daily hair care routine is always a must. Shiny and healthy hair is something everyone deserves.

Even if you are busy, and you don’t have much time to devote to hair care, you will find that many of these tips include how you do something you are already doing, rather than adding more steps to your hair care routine.

Follow These Tips For a Healthy Hair

If your hair is already damaged, and you don’t want to cut it completely, you should adopt as many hair care tips from this list as possible. Most of them are really low effort, and once they become your habit you won’t even think about them.

Avoid Using Heat Tools

If you use heat tools such as a straightening iron or a hair curler on a daily basis, your hair is probably pretty damaged. What happens is that heat opens up cuticles leaving your hair dry and therefore prone to breaking. If a flat iron is the first thing you pick up in the morning, you need to stop and rethink how you can style your hair in a more subtle way.

Of course, the best solution is to let your hair air-dry as often as you can. And at least for summertime, we can follow that advice. For some extra texture just spray some salt spray on your hair.

However, if blow-drying and styling your hair with heat tools is a necessity you can’t figure out how to avoid, make sure you always apply excellent pre/post-heating products before and after to keep your hair healthy. We love the CHI 44 Iron Guard. See also at the end of the articles how you can style your hair without using hot styling tools.

Only Straighten and Curl Dry hair

Think about what happens when you drop water into a hot pan, then consider if you want the same to happen to your hair. We think not! That’s why you never want to use a curling iron or hair straightener when your strands are wet or even just a little damp. It’s well worth the wait to let your hair completely dry, whether that means air drying or giving your mane a

blast with a blow-dryer. With the Dyson Airwrap tool, you can dry and curl your hair with one product. It’s so popular and everyone swears by it.

Shield your strands from UV rays

Another source of hair damage you may not be aware of? The sun! That’s why the AAD recommends covering up with a hat whenever you’re outside for long periods of time. Besides, hats can serve as the perfect accessory—especially on lazy hair days. If you still want to rock your natural hair just spray it with some UV protection hair spray like the Sun Bum Sea UV Spray.

Cut back on coloring your hair

Yes, we are all addicted to dying our hair. Using hair color to enhance one’s looks may provide temporary satisfaction, but the constant use of hair dye for that purpose will likely have the opposite impact. Whether you went from brown to platinum blonde or to mermaid blue, the natural moisture of your hair will be reduced with dyeing.

However, there are a few tricks to get around the damaging effects of hair coloring.

You should stay in shades that are close to your natural color and extend the dyeing from three to eight to ten weeks. Use different hair color techniques. If you haven’t, try doing highlights or balayage on your natural hair color. That way, you can still add depth and dimension to your hair, but avoid getting it colored too often, as you don’t need to touch up the roots every few weeks. If you are concerned with covering your greys, and you need to color your hair every few weeks try using a touch-up spray for your roots like L’Oreal Paris Magic Root Cover Up Gray Concealer.

Also, there are plenty of products on the market you can find, from traditional henna to big-name beauty companies’ herbal hair colors, such as Herbatint Permanent Herbal Haircolor Gel.

Trim your hair regularly

Prolonging the time between haircuts will only lead to split ends. If your hair is damaged, we suggest getting a trim every 6-8 weeks until fully recovered. If you want to keep the length of your hair, don’t worry, regular trimming won’t affect it. That is mainly, because your hair will break less, and every time you go to the hairdresser you will need to cut less of your hair because less would be damaged. On the other hand, if you have healthy hair, trimming three or four times a year, just to dust the ends, will suffice.

Wash your hair less often

Frequent washing is known to really damage hair by drying out the natural oils. Believe it or not, wet hair is prone to breakage more than dry hair. When you use shampoos every day, along with dirt and debris, they also remove natural hair oils. There is a pretty easy solution to this problem – wash your hair less!

Or if you are a frequent hair washer, be careful of the shampoos you use. Use mild shampoos and avoid artificial ones. You can even entirely skip every second time you wash the hair the shampoo, and just wash with water.

Massage scalp for healthy hair

Most women forget to massage their scalp when washing their hair. It might sound ridiculous, but aside from the relaxing factor, it is actually a proven way of making your hair look better. The strength, health, and shine of your hair start exactly on the scalp, so we have to make sure it has been taken care of. Apply gentle pressure in a circular motion to stimulate muscles, nerve endings, and blood vessels, therefore stimulating blood circulation and feeding hair follicles. From washing and massaging your hair in the shower to massaging it before going to bed – it will not only make your hair healthy and thicker, but you will also relax, and fall asleep faster. You can use a Scalp Massager Shampoo Brush for maximum results.

Any time you shampoo your hair you should condition it

To add moisture back, after shampooing your hair, you should use a conditioner. If you’re not doing this already, you should probably start. Conditioner will bring back the shine to your hair, and prevent flyaways and frizziness. The Moroccanoil Hydrating Conditioner will moisturize and protect your healthy hair. Conditioner creates a layer around your hair that protects each strand from external elements such as pollution.

Deal carefully with wet hair

Believe it or not, you preferably shouldn’t brush your wet hair. It is more prone to damage and break than damp hair. When your hair is wet, it becomes elastic so the brush or a comb can easily break your roots or cuticles. You can always use your fingers rather than a brush. For people with super curly hair, a  wide-tooth comb is better for removing tangles on your wet hair than any kind of hairbrush.  Start with your ends, and then work your way up. The same rule applies as with styling tools, air or towel dry your hair at least 80 % before using your regular brush.

You might not even be aware that towels damage your hair, but the fact is they can! Wrapping and rubbing your hair with the towel can cause damage, frizziness, and fluffiness. So what you want to do is use a soft towel(consider a microfiber one) or even a T-shirt. Using a softer material will prevent your hair from getting tangled and thus getting damaged. Before using a towel, gently squeeze out the extra water, and don’t twist your hair while doing so. Also, don’t aggressively rub your hair with a towel, but gently blot and squeeze the sections of your hair. Let your hair dry naturally – by around 80% before you turn to the heat styling tools.

Nighttime Routine for Healthy Hair

Now, when we went through some general hair care routines, there remains a question – what else can we do for our hair? Just like your skin, your hair needs care and pampering. If you would like to wake up with perfect hair, you need to establish a nighttime hair routine as well. You wouldn’t go to bed with your makeup on, right? Going to bed without brushing or oiling your hair can be as harmful as hitting your pillowcase with makeup on.

From static hair to untamed hair that simply won’t listen to us – all these happen when you wake up in the morning. Simple things that you can do before going to bed can actually make your hair look fabulous in the morning. These are some tested and proven things that you should definitely list as your before-bed routine if you want to wake up with great hair. Having a nighttime hair routine is as important as having a skincare routine, before calling it a night. By taking these measures we have listed above, you will wake up with great hair.

Sleep on silk or linen pillowcases

Sleeping on pure silk or linen sheets and pillows shouldn’t be a luxury but the key to healthy skin and hair. Rubbing hair against cotton can cause frizziness and make your hair static. Smooth materials like silk and linen mean that your hair won’t get tangled during the night. Another benefit of smooth pillowcases is that they will keep moisture in your hair. Unlike cotton pillowcases which will suck all the moisture and keep your hair looking dry and brittle. Cotton linens can cause your hair to look frizzy, grow much slower, appear thin, and cause split ends.

Protect your hair with a silk wrap

If you are not into silky smooth linens, we have an even better solution for you – use a silky or satin head wrap. It prolongs the time between washes and protects your hair during the night. Tying up your hair into a bun or a ponytail shouldn’t be an option anymore well. So get yourself a silk wrap and you will wake up with less frizz and an overall better hair care routine.

Always Dry Hair Before Bed

Before calling it a night, dry your wet hair. If you prefer to wash your hair at night, then make sure to dry it really well before going to bed. As we mentioned, the hair follicle is in its most sensitive state when wet, so sleeping with wet hair can only cause knots and breakages. You should invest in a good blow dryer that minimizes the damage and also don’t forget to apply heat-protecting products. They will prevent fuzziness as well as static hair that will wait for you in the morning.

Apply Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is a perfect solution for those busy days when you simply don’t have time and strength to wash your hair. Also, it is a great substitute for washing your hair at night. If you don’t plan to wet your hair before bed (which is not recommended), then simply apply dry shampoo. It will make your hair look good even without shampoo and conditioner. The dry shampoo tends to absorb dirt and natural oils during the night, so you will wake up with hair that can endure one more day without washing. Act+Acre Plant-Based Dry Shampoo if you prefer natural, clean products.

Remove Hair Extensions

This should go without saying – removing hair extensions before bed is a must when it comes to your hair care routine. Even though hair extensions are not harmful to your hair, they can cause tangling if you take them to bed. And that is how you can ruin both your hair and hair extensions.

Braid it Instead of Making a Bun

As we already mentioned, tying up your hair in a bun or ponytail might make you look like you are in a movie, but it actually isn’t good for your hair. These styles can put the hair through a lot of stress during the night. Instead of making a bun, opt for a loose braid. You can pick classic three-strand braid, fishtail braid, and Dutch braid. The braid will both protect your hair and provide you with some waves in the morning. Isn’t that a great hair care hack?

Make Overnight Conditioning Part of Your Hair Care

If your hair is dry and you feel that wash-out conditioner is simply not enough to moisturize it, then do an overnight treatment. You should wet your hair with a bit of rose water, or purified water that you use. Then use a wide-toothed comb to distribute Aussie Deep Thoughts Reconstructing Conditioner all over your hair. If your hair ends are very dry, put more product there. You can put on a plastic cap or braid your hair into a few sections of hair and let it stay overnight. In the morning, simply rinse your hair with water and let it air dry (if possible).

Oils, oils, oils

Since oils can work miracles on your skin, why don’t you use them on your hair as well? But be careful. Many of these oils are a bit hard for daily application. That is why hairdressers and stylists suggest applying oils overnight. You can go for some of the best hair oils such as argan, coconut, olive, or castor oil. They will all soothe down your strands, make the hair ends look healthy, and nourish your hair in the best possible way. Extra tip – Apply some castor oil on your eyebrows and eyelashes every night if you want to make them fuller and fast-growing. It works wonders!

Overnight Style Advice by Pro and Famous Hairdressers

And for the end, let’s wrap up with three style tips that you can implement overnight for fabulous hair in the morning!

Justine Marjan, personal Kardashian hairdresser, and Mark Townsend cooperate with some of the world’s best fashion magazines, and they style many famous ladies for their covers. Their advice, at first hand, will probably surprise you, just like us, because they are extremely simple.

How to get wavy hair a la Gisele with the right hair care?

If you’ve always wanted to have wavy hair like Gisele Bündchen, a solution that the two famous stylists have will delight you, primarily because of its convenience. All that is required is that on the just washed and dried hair, you apply a little foam before going to bed, along with the entire length, and then weave in a tight braid. That’s it! The Flexible Hold + Coconut Milk Curl Foam Mousse from Maui is the best choice for your curly locks. Their hair products are especially for all people with waves, curls, and coils.

How to get voluminous hair during the night

How to create a fantastic volume that hair after a professional blow-dry? The question to which we all want the answer, is again very simple. In fact, you do not even need any of those super hair dryers, but just the three classic sticky rollers. Take the one medium-sized, wrap your hair at the top of your head, sprinkle it a little with a light hairspray ( we love the Sebastian Shaper), and from at least 10 inches distance. After sleep, brush the rest of the hair with a round hairbrush, and then remove the rollers.

How to keep your hair straight during the night without hair care products?

Wash and blow-dry hair to flat or straighten it with the flat iron, and then tie it in a satin wrap or with a silk scrunchie. Your hair in the morning will still be flat, and it will be enough to go through with the brush to fix it.

We hope these tips helped you update your hair care game! Let us know which hair care habits you find help your hair the most!
